Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, leader of the New Generation Movement, was originally detained on Sunday, August 24, but his detention has now been extended until Wednesday. New Generation Movement MPs have expressed serious concern about his health condition in prison, emphasizing that the PUK bears responsibility for his safety.

Sarwa Abdulwahid, leader of the New Generation Movement faction in the Iraqi parliament, said that the information received about Abdulwahid’s deteriorating health, along with the circumstances of his arrest, confirms the political nature of the case.

This follows the August 12 raid on Abdulwahid’s home, where security forces arrested him late at night without prior notice.
