The Communist Party of Kurdistan (CPK) has strongly condemned the arrest of New Generation Movement leader Shaswar Abdulwahid and the raid on his home, describing it as a deliberate act of political repression. In a statement released Wednesday, the CPK said the move reflects a broader policy by the ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to intensify fear and intimidation in order to silence public dissent.
The party argued that the current political crisis in the Kurdistan Region has reached a stage where the authorities can no longer tolerate opposition voices, calling it a clear indication of their fear of mass uprisings. The CPK dismissed any potential legal justification for the arrest, framing it instead as part of a repressive strategy to preserve what it described as the "rotten pillars” of militia-based power.
According to the statement, the KDP and PUK "have nothing to do with the Kurdish people” and rely solely on "repression and imprisonment” to maintain their dominance. The CPK demanded Abdulwahid’s immediate release and urged the public to resist what it called authoritarian tactics aimed at crushing political freedoms.
