The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced that three new international airports—in Mosul, Karbala, and Nasiriyah—will open this year as part of a broader plan to enhance the country’s civil aviation infrastructure.
In a statement, the ministry said, "The government has launched strategic plans to develop the civil aviation sector, including several major airport projects.”
The ministry confirmed that Mosul International Airport will be inaugurated soon, with Karbala and Nasiriyah airports to follow. Alongside the new airports, 26 major projects are underway at Baghdad International Airport, aiming to modernize and expand its infrastructure.
Officials emphasized that these developments mark a significant step toward improving air travel services, increasing capacity, and stimulating economic growth across Iraq.
