The Iraqi Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs has announced that more than 2.19 million citizens are currently benefiting from social welfare salaries under the national social security network. The government continues to broaden its support through healthcare, food aid, and employment initiatives, according to Ministry spokesman Hassan Khawam.

As part of its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable families, the Ministry is offering free health insurance and monthly food baskets to all households registered in the social welfare system. These measures are being implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce.

Khawam also revealed that over 51,000 young people aged 18 to 25 have been employed on a contract basis in various government ministries, including the Ministries of Interior, Education, and Justice. These appointments are part of a broader plan to reduce youth unemployment and encourage participation in public service.

In addition to government employment, the Ministry is encouraging self-employment by providing long-term loans ranging from 20 to 50 million Iraqi dinars. Beneficiaries who launch their own businesses will no longer receive monthly social security stipends, as they transition to financial independence.

The Ministry is also addressing the needs of vulnerable children. Each unaccompanied child registered in the social security system has received a one-time grant of 100,000 Iraqi dinars to support their basic needs.

These programs reflect a growing commitment by the Iraqi government to improve economic resilience and reduce poverty through integrated social welfare policies.
