The Erbil General Directorate of Health (DGH) has issued disciplinary measures against a number of doctors who were absent during the Eid al-Adha holiday, as part of a wider boycott by resident doctors across the Kurdistan Region.

A letter signed by Dr. Dlovan Mohammed Fatih, Director General of the DGH, confirmed that several doctors were penalized for failing to comply with their official working hours. The decision came after Dr. Fatih personally visited hospitals on the second day of Eid to assess operations.

According to the directive, doctors who were not present at their assigned posts will have one day’s salary deducted and be considered officially absent.

In a similar case, seven resident doctors at Raperin Teaching Hospital were also penalized for their absence, receiving the same punishment.

In a separate letter, Dr. Dlovan Mohammed, Director of Public Health in Erbil, warned that any resident doctor who neglects their duties in the public sector will not be allowed to work in private hospitals and will be held accountable.

The punitive actions come amid a broader boycott led by resident doctors in Erbil, Sulaimani, Koya, Raperin, Garmian, and Soran. The boycott demands the employment of last year’s medical graduates and a reorganization of the medical ranking system within all government hospitals and emergency units.
