The Sulaimani Electricity Authority (SEA) has announced that households currently receiving 24-hour electricity have been paying between 25,000 to 50,000 dinars per month this spring, thanks to a 50% discount provided by the government.

However, SEA warned that with the arrival of summer and the increased demand for electricity due to high temperatures, this discount will likely be lifted. As a result, monthly electricity bills are expected to surge to between 150,000 and 200,000 dinars per household.

According to the authority, the spring season’s low electricity usage and the current discount have helped keep household costs down, but this will change as air conditioning and cooling needs rise in the hotter months.

In a related move, the government has extended the "lighting project" to include not just citizens but also government institutions. A recent directive has set the cost of each kilowatt of electricity for public institutions at 160 dinars.

Furthermore, the government plans to penalize ministries and institutions that overuse electricity by limiting certain services, including removing cooling systems that consume large amounts of power.
