A delegation from the New Generation Movement faction in the Iraqi parliament visited Halabja yesterday to extend their congratulations to the people of the province following its official recognition as Iraq’s 19th province.
During the visit, the delegation emphasized that Halabja’s new provincial status must not remain merely symbolic or limited to legislation on paper. They stressed the importance of implementing concrete changes that will improve the lives of its citizens.
"We consider what we’ve done for Halabja so far as a small gift, but it should be only the beginning,” the faction said, adding that they have raised the issue of Halabja’s provincialization in all their high-level meetings with Iraqi officials in Baghdad.
The New Generation Movement reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that Halabja receives the attention, budget, and services it deserves as a full-fledged province.
