SULAIMANI— Latif Rashid is a leading member of the Patriotic
Union of Kurdistan (PUK) who served as the Iraqi minister of Water Resources
from 2003 until 2010.
Rashid, educated in Manchester, was the PUK's spokesman and
representative in the UK for more than a decade.
Timeline:
1944: born in Sulaimani, Iraq
1968: obtains a degree in Civil Engineering from Liverpool
University
1969: Starts teaching at the University of Sulaimani
1972: receives M.Sc. in Engineering from Manchester
University
1976: receives PhD in Engineering from Manchester University
1979: starts working as senior Project Manager for the UN's
Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO) in Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
1986: appointed as PUK's spokesman and representative in the
UK.
1992: elected as vice president and executive member of the
Iraqi National Congress (INC)
1998: elected to the six-member leadership of the INC
2010: appointed as senior advisor to the Iraqi president
Rashid is married to Shanaz Ibrahim Ahmed and has two sons
and one daughter.
Speaks Kurdish, Arabic and English
