SULAIMANI — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said on Wednesday (September 28) the ministry will summon Iran’s ambassador to Baghdad to discuss the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) bombardment of the Kurdistan Region.

Hussein said in a statement that Iran’s ambassador will be summoned for an immediate meeting on the attack launched on Wednesday.

He stated the ministry’s responsibility was to protect Iraq’s sovereignty, the country’s citizens and its territory without violence.

Hussein said the poor relations some Iraqi politicians have experienced with foreign countries has had a negative impact on the country’s interests.

The IRGC attack, launched with drones and missiles on Wednesday, struck locations in Sulaimani and Erbil provinces and targeted Kurdish Iranian opposition groups. The attacks resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and more than 24 people were injured.
