SULAIMANI — Fazil
Zrijawi, a member of the State of Law Coalition’s Presidency, told local media
on Thursday (August 4) the party insists on Mohammed Shia al-Sudani as the
Coordination Framework’s candidate for prime minister and on the formation of
the Iraqi government in the near future.
Members of the State
of Law responded to Sadr’s demands on Wednesday for the dissolution of
parliament and the call for early elections, stating the political parties in
Baghdad have yet to discuss snap elections and disbanding parliament.
Mahmood Hayal, an
official in the State of Law, said political moves should be carried out by
parties jointly, not by one particular faction imposing its view on others.
He added, he believed
Sadr’s demands could have been achieved through dialogue instead of by force
and threats.
Sadr made his
announcement on Wednesday evening following days of sit-in demonstrations when
his supporters broke into the highly fortified Green Zone in Baghdad and
occupied the parliament building.
Falih Fayaz, the head
of Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) has also responded to Sadr’s demand,
saying the dissolution of parliament was a serious matter that would not be
accepted if it was suggested by only one party. He stated the proposal could
become accepted if there was mutual agreement.
