SULAIMANI — The leader of the Fatah Alliance, Hadi al-Amiri
said during a speech at the Ghadeer Festival in Baghdad on Wednesday (July 20)
that recordings recently leaked purporting to contain statements from the head
of the State of Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, were fabricated.
Amiri urged the leader of the Sadrist Movement, Muqtada
al-Sadr, not to listen to the recordings, which contained highly inflammatory
statements against Sadr and others, and insisted the recordings were
artificially created.
Amiri said the loss of trust and the spread of
misinformation at such a critical stage in Iraq was a threat to security.
He alleged the recordings were false news aimed at creating
division among Shia members of parliament and stated the best solution to the
issue was to speed up the process of the election a president and prime
minister and forming the new Iraqi government.
He also called on Kurds to resolve the issue of the position
of president of the republic and said the Coordination Framework should settle
the position of prime minister so that Iraq does not become a "Zionist American
military base.”
The Iraqi judicial authority has opened an investigation
into the recordings and is still waiting for a resolution.
Iraqi journalist Ali Fadhil began posting a number of audio
recordings to his Twitter account on July 13, alleging the recordings came from
a meeting between Shia members of the government and Nuri al-Maliki.
In the alleged statements, Maliki said he did not trust the
Iraqi military, police, or the Popular Mobilization Forces, accused Sadr of
murder and kidnapping, and appeared to be willing to resort to violence.
Muqtada al-Sadr gave a strong response to the recordings on
Monday, stating he was "threatened with murder” by the Dawa Party and
Maliki. Sadr called on Maliki to resign from politics and surrender to the
court.
Maliki has denied the authenticity of the recordings.
