SULAIMANI — The World Health Organization (WHO) in Iraq said
the organization has dispatched urgent medicine and medical supplies to
Sulaimani governorate to help with the sudden cholera outbreak.
In a tweet on Monday (June 20), the WHO said the dispatch is
to help the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Ministry of Health to step up
in response to the disease.
"The increase in new cholera cases in Sulaimani and other
governorates is a reason for concern for WHO,” said Ahmed Zoutein, a
representative from the organization in Iraq.
On June 15, Kirkuk’s health directorate announced a case of
cholera had been recorded in the province, along with a number of suspected
cases.
The KRG’s Health Ministry said 10 cases of cholera had been
recorded in Sulaimani and four in Erbil.
