SULAIMANI— A
High Committee to Confront Cholera was formed in Erbil yesterday (June 19)
following the death of four people with the disease in the province, the Erbil
governorate announced on the same day.
Erbil
governorate issued several measures to curb the spread of Cholera, including
increasing the number of health employees, providing additional medicine to
hospitals, and other public safety measures.
The Health
Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Saman Barzinji, said in a press conference on
Sunday, June 20, that water supplies are the leading cause of the spread of
Cholera.
Barznji
explained that the spread of Cholera is related to non-clean drinking water
supply, food, and general personal hygiene.
The governor
of Sulaimani, Haval Abubakir, said on June 19 that cases of vomiting and
diarrhoea have increased to 3,165 in the hospitals of Sulaiamani.
The
Sulaimani Health Directorate warned of the viral diarrhoea and vomiting in the
governorate on Sunday (June 12).
Four people,
including two children, have died from the illness.
