SULAIMANI — A delegation from the Coordination
Framework, including senior political figures, will visit the leader of the
Sadrist Movement, Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, on Saturday (March 12) at Hannana
in Najaf for talks on the formation of the new government.
Hadi al-Amiri, the leader of the Fatah Coalition,
and Falih Fayaz, the chairman of the Popular Mobilization Forces (Hashd
al-Shaabi) and the founder of the Ataa Movement, will be part of the delegation,
according to Baghdad Today.
The Sadrist Movement also announced in parliament
their party was planning to hold an important meeting on Saturday.
The Coordination Framework, an alliance of Shia
parties, has been negotiating with the Sadrists to allow its blocs to join the majority
government. Iran’s influence, including visits by Quds Force Commander Esmail
Qaani, has not managed to bring Iraq’s Shia parties together.
The Iraqi Federal Supreme Court upheld the October
election results in a ruling on December 27, rejecting an appeal submitted by
Amiri over accusations of fraud and calls for the election results to be
canceled.
The Sadrist bloc won 73 seats in parliament while
Amiri’s Fatah Alliance, which represents Hashd al-Shaabi, secured only 17
seats, down from 48 in the last elections.
