SULAIMANI — The Spokesperson of Erbil Police,
Hogir Aziz, told NRT on Monday (March 7) a suspect has been arrested over the
murder of Iman Sami Maghdid, a young woman who was found dead on Erbil’s 100
Meter Road on Sunday night.
Maghdid, also known as Maria, was a 20-year-old
activist on social media.
The man arrested in connection with Maria’s death
is her uncle and police are also searching for her 17-year-old brother, who her
uncle said committed the crime.
There were rumors on social media that Maria had
converted from Islam to Christianity. Her father told NRT she had not changed
her religion but liked to wear a cross.
"Maria didn’t have problems with anyone, she just
didn’t have a good relationship with her family,” her father said.
"My son was last seen with his uncle, who took him
out saying he had something important to do with him,” Maria’s father stated.
