SULAIMANI — Members of
Peshmerga forces were wounded in an attack by Islamic State (ISIS) militants in
the Qarachokh Mountains southwest of Erbil on Thursday (February 3), an NRT
reporter said.
Kurdish forces responded
to sniper fire from ISIS members and three members of Peshmerga were wounded while
one Islamic State militant was killed.
The wounded members of Kurdish
forces were taken to an emergency hospital.
The head of Iraq’s
Security Media Cell, Major General Saad Maan, said in January an ISIS presence
persisted in the Qarachokh Mountains, the area south of Makhmur, and in parts
of Kirkuk, Diyala and Salahadin governorates.
