— The bodies of 16 migrants who drowned in the English Channel last month will
be returned to the Kurdistan Region this week.
Kurdistan
Regional Government (KRG) Spokesman Jutyar Adil said the bodies were delayed
for a month for the identification process and will be brought back through
Erbil International Airport on Friday.
Thirty
one migrants, the majority Kurds, drowned on November 24 when a boat carrying
50 migrants capsized in the English Channel. The vessel had set out from the
French port-city of Calais.
French
authorities announced almost 15,400 people attempted to cross the channel and
reach the UK over the past eight months.
