SULAIMANI — Poland has said it supports imposing sanctions on airlines flying migrants into Belarus, according to a letter sent by the country’s interior minister to his German counterpart.

The letter blames Belarus’ leader Alexander Lukashenko for creating a pathway for thousands of migrants and refugees from Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, Africa, and Afghanistan to enter the European Union, according to Reuters.

The move comes as the European Union has debated wider sanctions on Belarus, with Germany offering technical assistance to the Polish authorities.
