Shakhawan Abdullah, head of the KDP faction in the Iraqi parliament, told NRT on Monday that Fuad Hussein, the party’s official candidate, has submitted his curriculum vitae for the presidential post.

According to reports, Hoshyar Zebari visited Sulaimani on Sunday and met with Bafel Talabani, informing him that the KDP had asked the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) to nominate several candidates for the presidency, with the KDP agreeing to vote for one of them.

However, the PUK has officially nominated Nizar Amedi for the post, and reports indicate that Shiite political parties have agreed to support his candidacy. Meanwhile, the current Iraqi president, Latif Rashid, has also registered himself to run again.

The Iraqi parliament announced that the number of candidates for the presidency has now reached 70.
