The deadline for submitting candidates for the Iraqi presidential election expires on the 5th of this month, amid ongoing political consultations among Kurdish and Iraqi parties.
According to reports, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) intends to nominate Nizar Amedi, a member of the party’s political bureau and former environment minister in the Mohammed Shia al-Sudani cabinet. Several other figures have also received nomination forms, including Latif Rashid, the current president, Aso Faraidun, and Shuan Dawoodi.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Union has announced its intention to nominate Musana Amin, a member of the Iraqi parliament.
At the same time, the Coordination Framework has called on the PUK and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) to agree on a presidential candidate who is acceptable to all political sides.
