Farhad Atroshi has been elected as the Second Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament following a vote held on Tuesday night.
Atroshi, the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) candidate, secured 177 votes, defeating Rebwar Karim, the Halwest candidate, who received 99 votes.
The result came after the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) reached a political agreement with the KDP and voted in favor of Atroshi’s candidacy.
Earlier, Shakhawan Abdullah, initially nominated by the KDP for the post, failed to secure the required 166 votes to win the position. Following his withdrawal, the KDP replaced him with Farhad Atroshi, who went on to win the vote.
With this election, the position of second deputy speaker within the Iraqi Parliament has been officially filled.
