The Iraqi Customs Board announced that a new 15% customs duty will be applied to electric vehicles starting next week. The tax applies to private vehicles imported by citizens, excluding businessmen, for models 2025 and newer.
Samer Qasim Daud, Director General of the Iraqi Customs Board, said the measure is part of efforts to regulate vehicle imports, ensure quality and safety, and protect consumers from substandard vehicles.
The decision also aims to reduce traffic congestion and control random imports, in line with public safety and national interest.
Previously, the Iraqi government had removed taxes and customs duties on hybrid and electric vehicles to encourage environmentally friendly and economically efficient transportation.
