SULAIMANI — Four Iraqi soldiers were killed and eight members
of Hashd al-Ashairi (Tribal Forces) were wounded in Islamic State (ISIS) attack
in Khattab village in Makhmour district on Saturday (September 11).
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity told NRT that during
the confrontation between the forces and ISIS militants, an improvised
explosive device (IED) planted by latter detonated.
It said that the militants also used snipers and medium
weapons.
The wounded victims were transferred to Erbil hospitals for
treatment, it added.
In December, 2017, federal security forces, in cooperation
with the Peshmerga and the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and aided by
Coalition airstrikes, declared victory over ISIS. Since then, the militant
group has resorted to guerrilla hit-and-run tactics, but remains a potent
threat in some parts of the country.
