SULAIMANI — The Iraqi government confiscated on Sunday (October 23) assets from five officials accused of stealing more than 3 trillion Iraqi dinars.

The Ministry of Finance announced Sunday the seizure of assets from five people suspected of the theft of more than 3 trillion Iraqi dinars from the tax authority’s account at the state bank of Rafidain.

The stolen amount is estimated to be 3.7 trillion Iraqi dinars, ($2.5 billion).

The ministry has informed all banks in Iraq to confiscate the assets of the five officials, four of them officials at the General Committee of Iraqi Taxes, and one employee from the Finance Office.

On October 16, the Iraqi Integrity Committee announced an investigation has begun over the allegations.
