SULAIMANI — Civil Defense teams managed
to control the outbreak of a large fire that broke out at a garage in central
Baghdad on Monday, destroying two buses. (January 24).
The fire broke out inside a bus
belonging to the General Company for Passenger Transport where defense teams
were able to cordon off the fire and isolate the burning buses from over a
hundred others nearby, according to a statement from the Directorate of
Transport.
The fire occurred at the company’s
garage in Palestine Street in the center of the Iraqi capital.
No one was injured in the incident and
the material damage was minimized, according to the statement, which noted Civil
Defense has requested an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
A security source in Baghdad also said
on Monday a motorcycle was seized due to concerns it may have been set with an
explosive device. An expert security team later determined there were no
explosive elements.
