SULAIMANI — A Katyusha rocket targeting Baghdad’s Green
Zone was shot down and another fell in a public square, Security Media Cell
announced on Saturday (December 19).
C-RAM defense system shot down one of the rockets targeting
the zone and the other damaged two civilian vehicles after it fell in a square
used for festivals, Iraqi security forces said.
Security Media Cell stated they have begun an investigation
to determine where the rockets were launched.
A security source cited by AFP said the shot-down missile
landed near the U.S. embassy in the fortified Green Zone, where a number of
embassies are located, and the other fell in a square about 500 meters from the
embassy.
Recent months have seen a number of attacks on U.S. forces
and interests in Iraq, which are often to pro-Iran factions in the country.
