SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Integrity Commission said on Sunday (September 19) that between 600 and 700 corruption cases are being investigated and hundreds of others are being processed through the courts, according to a semi-annual report sent to the KRG Council of Ministers.

In an interview with the state-owned Iraqi News Agency (INA), Head of the Commission Ahmed Anwar discussed how the commission was working to recover assets that were illegally expropriated, but did not provide any further details about whether corrupt officials were being prosecuted.

Anwar did not say how many of those cases had resulted in concrete judicial decisions, like convictions, acquittals, or pleas.

He said that the Commission was working with its federal counterpart in Baghdad and with Iraq’s foreign ministry to try to recoup assets stashed abroad.
