SULAIMANI — Member of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party’s (PKK) Committee of Solidarity with Martyrs' Families Yasin Bulut was gunned down by unidentified people in Sulaimani’s Chwarchra neighborhood early on Friday (September 17).

According to the media outlets affiliated with the PKK, Bulut was known as Shukri Sarhad and was born in 1957 in Kars city in eastern Turkey. In 1978, he joined the PKK.

During the military coup on September 12, 1980, he was detained and imprisoned in the Amed Prison for eleven years before he was released in 1991.

Bulut was in Sulaimani for health treatment.

The body was transferred to Sulaimani Forensic Medicine office for examination.

The PKK Foreign Relations Committee accused Turkey's National Intelligence Organization (MIT) of killing the member.

"The murderer Turkish state and its collaborators brutally murdered our friend Yasin Bulut, who came to Sulaimani for treatment, in front of his house,” it said in a statement.

"This brutal act was committed not only against us, but against all the people of the South and the stability of Sulaimani.”
