SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Thursday (July 29) it officially recorded 3,056 new cases of coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours.

There were 1,469 new cases in Duhok governorate, 749 in Sulaimani, and 749 in Erbil, 64 in the Garmian administration, fourteen in Raparin administration, and eleven in the Halabja governorate.

On Monday, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 3,559 infections. Combined with subsequent daily totals, the Region recorded 13,283 new cases over those four days, by far the worst such period since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The ministry also said ten patients had died from the disease, while 1,436 others recovered.

According to the health ministry, there have been 227,339 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 197,181 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 4,750 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
