SULAIMANI — Spokesperson for Garmian Police Directorate Ali Jamal Qaduri said on Wednesday (July 28) that a suspect has been arrested on charges of stealing 40 million Iraqi dinars ($27,000) in cash in Kifri the previous day.

The money which was supposed to be used to pay employees at the Forest Police Directorate in the district was stolen while those in charge of distributing salaries were eating lunch at a local restaurant.

Qaduri told NRT that the investigation is ongoing.

Most salaries in the Kurdistan Region, including those for public servants, are paid in cash once a month, but major robberies are rare.
