SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday (July 28) it officially recorded 3,468 new cases of coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours.

There were 1,517 new cases in Duhok governorate, 997 in Sulaimani, and 805 in Erbil, 77 in the Garmian administration, 47 in Halabja, and 25 in the Raparin administration.

On Monday, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 3,559 infections, followed by 3,250 on Tuesday. Combined with Wednesday's total, the Region recorded 10,227 new cases over those three days, by far the worst such period since the pandemic began in March 2020.

The ministry also said nineteen patients had died from the disease, while 1,277 others recovered.

According to the health ministry, there have been 224,283 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region. An official tally of 195,745 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 4,740 have died from it.

The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
