The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity confirmed that Iran has temporarily halted gas exports used to operate several of Iraq’s major power plants.

Ahmad Musa, the ministry’s spokesman, said Iran informed Iraqi officials that gas supply would be suspended for one week due to ongoing repair and maintenance work on its energy infrastructure. As a result, Iraq has begun shifting to alternative fuels, in coordination with the Ministry of Oil, to prevent widespread disruptions.

Musa noted that while some power plants have managed to continue operations using substitute fuels, others have been affected by reduced gas flow, leading to production shortfalls in several regions.

The temporary halt in Iranian gas exports comes shortly after the attack on the Kormor gas field in Chamchamal, which severely impacted regional electricity output and forced a broader reliance on external gas supplies.
