The Iranian Consulate in Erbil has strongly condemned the drone attack on the Kormor gas field, describing the incident as an unacceptable act that endangers the stability and security of the entire region.
Faramarz Asadi, the Iranian Consul General in Erbil, said on Friday that the attack on the Kormor field "is unacceptable and condemned by anyone.” He added that Iran views this act as a direct assault on the security of the Kurdistan Region and the welfare of its residents.
According to officials, the attack took place late on Wednesday night, November 26, 2025, when a drone targeted a major warehouse inside the Kormor field in Chamchamal. The strike caused a large fire and led to an 80% drop in electricity production across the region due to the suspension of gas supply from the field.
The consulate emphasized the need to prevent such attacks in the future and reiterated its support for regional stability and the protection of vital energy infrastructure.
