The United States has intensified pressure on the Kurdistan Region to move forward with unifying the Peshmerga forces.
On September 16, 2025, a meeting was held between the Kurdistan Regional Government and a US diplomatic and military delegation. The discussions centered on the reform process and the long-delayed unification of Peshmerga units. At the meeting, the US side urged the Kurdistan Region to take further steps to accelerate the implementation of the unification plan.
