Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Massoud Barzani met with Iraqi Parliament Speaker Mahmoud Mashhadani on Sunday in Salahaddin, where both sides emphasized the urgent need to resolve the salary and financial disputes between Erbil and Baghdad.
During the meeting, Barzani and Mashhadani reiterated that all outstanding issues must be addressed within the framework of the Iraqi constitution and in line with the principles of partnership, balance, and mutual respect.
They also highlighted that the salaries of public employees should not be entangled in political disagreements between parties. Instead, they urged the federal government to release the financial entitlements and monthly salaries owed to the Kurdistan Region without further delay.
It has been more than 65 days since the federal government last disbursed any payments to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), causing widespread concern among public sector workers and regional institutions.
Both leaders called on all parties to prioritize the well-being of citizens and to work collectively toward a solution that ensures stability and fairness.
