Rebwar Awrahman, a Member of Parliament representing the New Generation Movement, stated on Sunday in an interview with NRT that Iraq’s Federal Court is scheduled to meet tomorrow, and any ruling it issues must be respected by both the Iraqi federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
He emphasized that if Baghdad is obliged to send salaries to the Kurdistan Region, the decision must comply with existing agreements and the rule of law.
Awrahman criticized the two dominant Kurdish parties—the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (PDK)—for continuing to smuggle oil despite the ongoing regional turmoil. He accused the KRG’s Ministry of Finance of having no transparency or awareness of oil revenues.
He further asserted that the New Generation Movement’s presence in Baghdad has been crucial in defending the rights of citizens in the Kurdistan Region. He argued that a stronger New Generation presence in the capital would better serve the Kurdish people.
Awrahman also accused the PUK and PDK of spending the past 22 years in Baghdad not to resolve the salary issue but to secure positions and contracts for their affiliated companies.
