The livestock market in the Kurdistan Region has seen a notable decline during the Eid al-Adha holidays compared to last year, with sellers blaming salary delays and growing concerns over dengue fever.

Animal vendors report that many citizens, due to financial hardship and health fears, are delaying sacrifices to the second and third days of Eid in hopes of cheaper prices.
"In previous years, prices were higher and sales were strong,” one seller noted. "But this year, prices have dropped, and buyers are fewer.”

The economic strain from unpaid government salaries and rumors of a potential dengue fever outbreak have together had a direct impact on market activity.

To protect public health, authorities have mandated that all animal sacrifices be carried out in official slaughterhouses, under the supervision of health teams. The buying and selling of animals are permitted only in designated livestock markets.

The director of Erbil’s slaughterhouse warned that any sacrifice conducted in public areas will result in arrest and confiscation of the animal, urging compliance with regulations during the holiday period.
