SULAIMANI — The Deputy Speaker of the Kurdistan Parliament,
Hemin Hawrami, said on Wednesday (March 15) that no chance remains for delaying
the elections in the Kurdistan Region.
Hemin Hawrami said in a press conference that the Kurdistan
Regional Government (KRG) must set a date for the elections 60 days before the
extended parliamentary term ends.
"I want to make it clear to everyone that we are not in
any way in favor of extending the term of the Kurdistan Parliament again,"
he said.
The Deputy Speaker said he hopes before the end of March the
Kurdistan Region’s Presidency sets a date for the elections.
The parties in the Region should reach an agreement on the
election issues as "no time remains,” he said.
The Kurdistan Parliamentary election was supposed to be held
in 2022 as the parliament term ended on October 10, 2022 and the term was
extended by the parliament itself.
