SULAIMANI — The leader of the Sadrist Movement, Muqtada
al-Sadr, has called on the federal court to dissolve the Iraqi parliament at
the end of next week.
Sadr made his demand over Twitter on Wednesday (August 10)
and stated his call to withdraw parliament comes following a number of
constitutional violations in the period set to elect the three presidencies.
He also declared the dissolution of parliament does not
require a session of parliament.
He affirmed he has high hopes for the federal court despite
all the security and political pressure on the judiciary.
He has also asked the president's judiciary to set a date
for early elections to the Iraqi parliament.
Iraq’s parliamentary election was held on October 2021, but
the political parties have failed to form a new government to this day.
