SULAIMANI — The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional
Government (KRG), Masrour Barzani, said on Monday (June 20) only 5 percent of
Iraq’s income is given to the Kurdistan Region and 95 percent to other parts of
the country, despite the Kurdistan Region hosting a million displaced Iraqis.
Barzani spoke during a meeting with the chiefs of many news
organizations, including NRT, and questioned why so many Iraqis are choosing to
remain in the Kurdistan Region if the situation in the rest of the country is
so positive.
He said one million displaced Iraqis live in the Kurdistan
Region and $1.5 billion dollars is allocated to help them annually.
Barzani also said the KRG wants to carry out reform in the
current government cabinet.
