SULAIMANI — The United Nations Assistance
Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) held a closed meeting with representatives from the Kurdistan
Region’s political parties on Thursday (May 26) ahead of elections in October.
Salahaddin Babaker, the representative of
the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) said the meeting covered three main topics:
the political state of the Kurdistan Region, the Region’s elections and
relations between the Region’s provinces.
Babaker noted Thursday’s meeting did not
manage to cover all three topics because of the lack of sufficient time.
The system of public employees’ salaries,
including the "salary saving system” and delays to wages, was discussed during
the meeting as well, according to the KIU representative.
The United Nations said it should monitor
the process of amending the election law.
According to information NRT received, the
UN and the political parties will come to a final decision regarding the Region’s
elections in two weeks.
