SULAIMANI — A decision from the Kurdistan
Regional Government’s (KRG) Judicial Council to end Judge Ibrahim Ismail’s term
as the head of the Erbil Court of Appeals has been revoked.
According to information obtained by NRT,
the decision was reversed due to threats against the newly appointed head of
the appeals court, Omed Mohsin, and as a result of pressure over the council.
The KRG Judicial Council on May 15 issued
the decision to terminate Judge Ibrahim Ismail’s term and appoint Judge Mohsin,
who was previously the Judicial Council’s spokesman.
Ismail refused to leave his position and
stated the council’s decision was illegal.
A source informed NRT on Sunday that he believed
the issue was related to internal conflict in the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
The Kurdistan Region’s President, Nechirvan
Barzani, had authorized the appointment of Omed Mohsin to replace Ismail, who
is said to be close to the Prime Minister of the KRG, Masrour Barzani.
