SULAIMANI — Iraq’s Ministry of Health said on Monday (May 23)
that it recorded 118 coronavirus infections and zero death in the country over
the past 24 hours.
Of that total, 44 of the newest cases are in Baghdad
governorate, along with sixteen in Sulaimani, fourteen in Wasit, six in
Karbala, six in Maysan, five in Duhok, five in Basra, four in Najaf, four in Babil,
three in Diyala, three in Diwaniya, two in Erbil, two in Dhi Qar, two in Saladin,
one in Kirkuk, and one in Muthanna.
The ministry reported two patients died from COVID-19, the
disease caused by the coronavirus infection, and 142 recovered from it.
Meanwhile, 16,937 people were vaccinated in Iraq and the
Kurdistan Region.
According to the ministry, 10,636,781 people have been
vaccinated in Iraq, a country of more than 40 million, since the shipment of
vaccines arrived on February 28.
There have been 2,327,387 officially-recorded cases of
coronavirus across Iraq since the virus first appeared in the country.
At least 2,301,061 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and
a total of 25,218 people have died from it in Iraq. The numbers are almost
certainly an undercount.
