SULAIMANI — A member of the Kurdistan Islamic Union
(KIU) delegation told NRT on Sunday (May 22) that the Kurdistan Region
President Nechirvan Barzani's meeting with KIU leader Salaahadin Bahaadin was
"just routine, and nothing serious was discussed".
The delegation member،, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said that the meeting
was "only symbolic."
Barzani visited Sulaimani yesterday (May 22), holding
separate meetings with leaders of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), KIU
and Kurdistan Justice Group (KJG).
According to a statement issued on Kurdistan Presidency's
website, the meetings "focused on the political developments in the
Kurdistan Region and Iraq and challenges facing the country."
Meanwhile, KIU issued a statement saying Bahaadin told Barzani
that local conflicts between Kurdish political parties are the main reason
behind the threatened position of the Kurdistan Region.
Relations between rivals and coalition government partners
KDP and PUK are high as the two sides are in conflict over several issues,
including the Iraqi presidency position and the regional elections.
The Kurdistan parliamentary election is set to be held in
October, but no serious steps have been taken toward holding the election on
time.
