SULAIMANI — The Deputy Chief-of-Staff
at the Ministry of Peshmerga, Hoshmand Haidar, said on Wednesday (January 26)
the Second Pshtiwani Force of Peshmerga Forces 70 Command has been transferred
to the ministry.
Haidar said on Tuesday all legal
procedures for the transfer of the force to the Peshmerga ministry have been
completed.
The Peshmerga is notoriously divided on
the basis of partisan affiliation, with large sections controlled either by the
Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) or the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
More than a dozen brigades are under
the control of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Peshmerga
Affairs, which is ostensibly non-partisan.
Peshmerga Forces 70 Command is
affiliated with the PUK.
The First Pshtiwani Force was already transferred
to the ministry at an earlier date.
