1,520 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in Kurdistan Region: ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday (January 18) it officially recorded 1,520new cases of coronavirus infection over the past 24 hours.

There were 766 new cases in Erbil governorate, 368 in Duhok, 331 in Sulaimani, and 40 in Garmian administration, and fifteen in Halabja.

On July 26, the Region recorded its highest single-day total with 3,559 infections.

The ministry also said five patients died from the disease, while 140 others recovered. According to the health ministry, there have been 391,421 officially-recorded cases of coronavirus infection in the Kurdistan Region.

An official tally of 374,099 patients have recovered from COVID-19 and 7,171 have died from it. The numbers are almost certainly an undercount.
