SULAIMANI — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on
Saturday (January 15) that his country wants to persuade Kurds in northeast
Syria to negotiate with the Syrian government instead of depending on the US.
Lavrov said Moscow had contacted the president of the
executive committee of the Syrian Democratic Council Ilham Ahmed and other
administration officials to explain to them that they need to have serious meetings
with Damascus about their living situation within the country.
He said the Syrian government has its own opinion on the Syrian
Kurds and had not forgotten that the Kurds in the country were opposed to the
government in the past.
Lavrov also said that the goal of diplomacy is to be able to
put the past behind and establish a good relationship for the future.
