SULAIMANI — Two armed drones targeting Ain al-Assad Airbase
were shot down early on Tuesday (January 4) morning, an official from the
Global Coalition said.
"Two fixed-wing drones rigged with explosives were engaged and destroyed by
defense capabilities,” said an official from the coalition cited by AFP, adding
the attack was unsuccessful.
The attack comes after a similar incident early on Monday when two armed
drones targeting Camp Victory base, which hosts US troops near Baghdad
airport, were shot down by the base’s C-RAM defense system.
Ain al-Assad Airbase, located in Iraq’s western governorate of Anbar, hosts
US troops and other international forces.
