SULAIMANI — Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi army arrived at the village of Liheban in Kirkuk province’s Sargaran sub-district on Monday (December 6), one day after villagers fully abandoned the village due to repeated Islamic State (ISIS) attacks.

A source from the village told NRT most residents also returned to the village.

Nearly 25 ISIS militants tried to enter the village on Saturday night and were confronted by residents. One village said neither Iraqi security forces nor Peshmerga aided them in resisting the attack.

Attacks from ISIS militants have been a nightly occurrence over the past several days in areas disputed between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Iraq.
