SULAIMANI — Fighting broke out on Wednesday (December 1) between Iran’s border security and Afghanistan’s Taliban over a "border misunderstanding” Iran’s Tasnim News Agency reported.

Clashes at the border, near Afghanistan’s Nimroz Province, came to an end on Wednesday and Iran is holding talks with the Taliban over the border issue, according to Tasnim.

The agency stated on Twitter that Iranian farmers had crossed border fortifications meant to keep out smugglers and the Taliban responded to what they believed was a violation of their borders, causing an outbreak of gunfire from border security on both sides.

Iran has denied reports that the Taliban captured a border camp.

Bilal Karimi, the Taliban’s deputy spokesperson, acknowledged the clashes occurred but did not provide a reason for the conflict at the border.
